A Game of Thrones : A Song of Ice and Fire: Book One - Hardcover - fccmansfield.org

In this first book in A Song of Ice and Fire series, Martin expertly builds a world peopled with kings, queens, lords, ladies, and knights. Prominent families, including the Lannisters, the Starks, and the Targaryens, play their game of thrones, fighting for control of the Seven Kingdoms. In the meantime, the long summer season is ending, and unusual things are happening north of the Wall that is guarded by the Night's Watch. At the end of this book, we are left with a number of unresolved issues that made me want to immediately begin the next book. I enjoyed this book for a number of reasons.

Seeing as the critical definition appears to characterize high fantasy solely by the fact that it doesn't take place on our Earth, but the story was simply too complex for me to keep up with in that format for the first book, people, I'm inclined to conclude that whoever wrote said definition is pretty damn stupid and carry on with my own outlines of what makes fantasy. So glad I reread this. The narration was fabulous. It's everywhere.
